Biography
I was born at what was then Coffee County Hospital in Manchester on March 1, 1959. My parents resided in Anderson Subdivision on Ham Street, which is where I spent my first couple of years. They moved to 511 East Warren Street when I was very young, and I spent the remainder of my youth there.
My dad, Clifford, was an electrician at AEDC; while my mom, Bobbie, worked for a number of attorneys in Coffee Co., as well as being a court reporter. I have one brother, Richard, and two sisters, Deanna and Gaye.
I attended East Lincoln Elementary and walked to school every day through the fifth grade. At that time Tullahoma sent all sixth graders to Davidson Academy, which is now C.D. Stamps Community Center. I then went to East Junior High grades seven through nine, before moving on to Tullahoma High School for the next two years. I left with one year remaining to join the U.S. Navy, where I served two years.
After returning to Tullahoma I knew that this was where I wanted to settle down, raise a family, work, and retire. I have never really felt comfortable in a big-city environment, and I enjoy the slower pace and relaxed atmosphere of Tullahoma. I like knowing people wherever I go, and waving to folks when I'm driving through town. It's home.
I attended Motlow College in the early 80's, before working in the radio business from 1984-1989. It was there I began broadcasting the play-by-play of Tullahoma Wildcat football, which I still enjoy doing. After the station I worked at, 93.3, moved to Huntsville I was faced with the decision of moving with my job or allowing my job to move without me. I chose the later and have never regretted the decision.
After stints at various positions, including a return to Motlow to complete my degree, I became Sport Editor of the Tullahoma News in 1993. Although I completely enjoyed journalism, when I was offered the telecommunications position at Motlow College in 1995 I couldn't turn it down. I enjoy the work, and Motlow is a great place to spend my days. I completed my BS in Business Education at MTSU in 2002. An added benefit of my job is the opportunity to help and counsel with young people.
I was transfered to the Smyrna campus in August 2009 to become the technical support on that campus as well as to resume my duties as Webmaster for the college.
I live in Jennings Point subdivision with my wife Jamie and daughter Alivia. 'Livi Loo' is now a junio at Tullahoma High School and is an outstanding student as well as being very active in multiple civic organizations. I'm very proud of her and excited for her future, which I hope she will consider spending right here in Tullahoma. My oldest daughter Jackie lives in Knoxville. Many of you know her as she is one of those sparkling personalities that has never met a stranger.
My family has been members of Grace Baptist Church since 1990. I have served as chairman of the Budget & Finance Committee, as well as search committees when the church is between ministers.
There is no better place to raise children than right here in beautiful Coffee County, Tennessee. Our city schools are excellent, as they were when I was a student here. We have good recreation, good streets, dedicated police and fire departments, and a low crime rate. Although all is not perfect, I consider myself blessed to be able to spend my life in Tullahoma. |
